logic and consistency, life and death...

I am dismayed at how I find most humans totally lacking in logical and consistent thinking. I am discouraged when people seek out medical attention to relieve illnesses or undergo surgery and yet will insist they do not mind death. People tend to look before crossing streets, take care not to be in auto accidents and are cautious in so many way, yet will still totally accept the idea of death. Does anyone know why. Even within the cryonics community I have found a lack of real commitment to living.
