Adam James Davis Vibra-utopian

On a planet, you are warming your wet hands underneath a hand-dryer where you then rest your weary forehead on it's plastic case. The warmth and the gentle vibrations onto your skull stimulate blood flow; it is very nice. The planet unexpectedly explosed, and you automatically adapt. The mechanical shockwaves, gravity waves and electromagnetic emissions, across the orders of magnitude, are still cosy like a quietly humming beacon of soft light in a vibrating case.

Samantha Atkins So here I am on yet another Social Network

It would be really wonderful if my network of friends from Facebook could be imported and intersected with the members here to build my friend network here. Does anyone know of an effort to do such a thing? Is there a rich enough API in both networks (and others) to hack up a reasonable rough attempt? It gets rather old running the same process with some ad hoc variations on each network. I know we all have better things to do with our time. Continue

Adam James Davis "No current system..."

"No current system reflects the depth and breadth of what the future needs." - Natasha Vita-More Not only what the future needs, but also what the past needs. Would not such objectives as the abolition of extreme involuntary suffering be in vain given the amount of said suffering had, and yet to happen, on the way to such a development, if ever? Of course, we may very well need to help the future first in order to then help the past. A better life not just for our children, but for our ancestor… Continue

James Sargeant Digital Evolution

In the future, the success of life within a programmed reality will rely on coherent and flexible streams of code duplicating and mutating in much the same way that our DNA does now. Whether the mechanics of these mutations are driven by our own consciousness or by the will of machines that we will have given prior instruction remains to be seen... Read more Continue

James Sargeant Ancient Thoughts

It would be perfectly reasonable to assume that extropian and transhumanist concerns are very recent manifestations in the timeline of philosophical thought. It would be reasonable to conclude that such concerns can only have been born out of the collision between 20th/21st century technological developments, post-industrial infrastructure and the captivating imaginations of science fiction writers who saw this stuff from miles off (and didn't need to give any rationale to their hypotheses). Re… Continue

Adam James Davis Homo radius

Transmit yourself into the aether. Swim in the ocean of background hiss. Into the reverberance of the universe, Boost and amplify your personhood. Onto the periods around you, Imprint your harmonics. Radiate your bliss and benevolence on all bands, On all octaves. You are the antenna, The beacon. Homo radius... H~ Continue

Adam James Davis Involuntary

I am not voluntarily writing this. I am not voluntarily contemplating the concepts that led me to Involuntarily write the first statement. I am not voluntarily acknowledging the above, Nor this penultimate sentence. I am not voluntarily accepting the Involuntary nature of all of this. ~ Bonus: ""One can not be both A and B" I am both A and B, Whilst that rule still applies, infinitely." Continue

Adam James Davis H-

Transhumanism, thus cishumanism. H+, thus H-. As uplifting, so voluntary downlifting. The potential desirability of infinite ignorance; of being a blissful vegetable in a post-Darwinian world. Inspired by the pinprick argument in negative utilitarianism, would it be unethical to grant life initially? Taking life as unethical, and yet to create life is to grant that life the opportunity to be terminated and to experience suffering. Thus, creating life as just as, if not more, unethical than taki… Continue

Wayne Eddy The Collaborations

I can imagine a point in time, in the not-to-distant future when instead of talking about Corporations people will talk about "Collaborations". Networks of like minded people that get together via collaboration software, and with the help of expert systems, and perhaps a neural prosthesis or two to solve problems or to create works of art or build software or anything else of mutual interest. I suspect that Collaborations will attain greater-than-human intelligence much earlier than AIs will, an… Continue

Adam James Davis A Compilation of Micro-Writings [Revised Edition]

This is a compilation of micro-writings of mine which I have employed as Facebook statuses recently. --------------- Something may never happen, ever...but in a potential postposthuman future, it may, for such extreme future innovations may allow for physical and logical contradictions, such as for something infinitely impossible to actually happen whilst still remaining impossible. ~ The mind might not even be a singular star in an infinite void, for their might not even be a void outside o… Continue

Adam James Davis Future Sexuality: Cosmodildonics

It has been said that the universe could be a huge computer, a consciousness and even a giant musical instrument. It may well be all of those at once, including a posthuman sexual stimulator. Cosmodildonics A la the mechnical vibrations of an electric dildo, erotic stimulation from any and/or all repetitive and periodic phenomena in the universe...from electromagnetic waves to the orbits of planets; from the oscillations of civilisations rising and falling to the potential big bang/big… Continue

Adam James Davis As That, So Another...

As monism And as dualism, So infinitism! As futurism And the relishing of history, So the present; presencism. As Ralph Vaughan Williams to the lark, So whatever higher admirers of us there may be, if any. Inspired in ways we cannot be, they are, by the human minds elevating on harmonious thoughts And contemplations of infinity; Thoughts ground-breaking and forward-looking. The lepidopterist is enchanted by the symmetry of the butterfly, As they are with the glowing halos of our strange loops; O… Continue

Adam James Davis Clockwork A.I.

Could a fully sentient artificial intelligence emerge from a machine that is, either entirely or almost entirely, clockwork? A computer of springs, gears, cogs and pendula? How big would such a machine have to be in order for that to happen? The size of a solar system, perhaps, or even a galaxy... And what about sensory perception? A nervous system of, also, clockwork apparatus perhaps. Or to place a secondary "nervous system" inside such mechanics so the A.I. can perceive the harmony of it's… Continue

Adam James Davis New Aesthetic Frontiers

- To enjoy, in real-time, such phenomena as conceptual, abstract feedback loops and logic loops as we do now with the loops of musical rhythms across time. - To enjoy, in real-time, one's own strange loops of self-awareness, self-consciousness, et cetera, in the same way, as well as those of others. - To perceive across the sensory spectrum [as sounds, visuals, vibro-tactics, etc.] the nervous impulses and activities that are themselves already perceiving, and to subsequently perceive the impuls… Continue

Jon King logic and consistency, life and death...

I am dismayed at how I find most humans totally lacking in logical and consistent thinking. I am discouraged when people seek out medical attention to relieve illnesses or undergo surgery and yet will insist they do not mind death. People tend to look before crossing streets, take care not to be in auto accidents and are cautious in so many way, yet will still totally accept the idea of death. Does anyone know why. Even within the cryonics community I have found a lack of real commitment to livi… Continue

David Fendrich Get anyone to do anything by David Lieberman, review and summary

When I read non-fiction, I always get the feeling that after a few weeks I have forgotten the entire book, even if it was a good one! In order to get more out from my books, I started putting Post-Its beside interesting quotes, so that I could write a good summary for myself afterwards. The following review is somewhat special, in that quotes does not really do it justice, so I have written a summary of the entire book instead.
