There seems to be a lot of controversy and general confusion about the meaning of the word "Singularitarian".

The word was originally defined by the Singularitarian Principles, in the year 2000.

Since then, the word has been watered down, and redefined with a wide range of wildly different meanings.

So now it basically means "someone who believes that some sort of Singularity will happen sometime soon".

And the word "Singularity" itself has at least 3 very different definitions.

So, what do you, personally, mean by the word "Singularitarian"?

Personally I agree with the Singularitarian Principles. I believe that a Singularity should be sought for and that it should be a force for uniting and improving humanity. While I personally do not feel that i'm contributing to the emergency of the Singularity as much as I should, I do hold that ideal and hope to fufil it someday. I also think of my self as skeptical (albeit hopeful) that a Singularity will exist within my life time.

I'm very certain that bothering with terms is useless in this specific situation because the singularity will happen before anyone succeeds in coining a term. We should not seek for people who believe that it will happen, but for people who will make it happen sooner. However, if a "Singularitarian" is a person who not only believes that the singularity will come, but he/she will be actively contributing to it, than the term is not that bad.
