Hi there everyone. I'm an ordained Christian minister and religion journalist, and I'm interested in the Singularity and technology and science in general from a religious/spiritual perspective. People of faith tend to be behind the curve but I believe we need to be in on conversations about the future. I'm also here, in a way, to represent a different type of Christianity, I hope...one that doesn't feel the need to quote the Bible at every turn or argue that the earth is 6000 years old, for example. I'm also not here to argue about the existence of God, although I might be interested in hearing what others here think about that, at some point. I'm mostly here to learn, connect, and possibly weigh in on discussions from time to time.

Here's an interesting link to a post on Blogging the Singularity - "Man vs. God" found in The Wall Street Journal...

Thanks, Frank.

I had seen these, interesting stuff. I think Dawkins oversimplifies theology by relying on the idea of an omniscient, omnipotent (and male) creator as his foil. Process theology, for example, does not require God to be these things. I still have a lot of reading to do in this area, but I find it promising. I know that not all process theologians agree on every aspect. But among the Christians I know, there are a fair amount who have gravitated toward process thought and away from Sunday School literalism and Calvinism.

What are your thoughts?

We are all constrained by "so little time" and "so much to learn".

I consider myself to be an agnostic.

Interesting blog, Frank. I've bookmarked it so that I can come back again.

It is good to hear there are intelligent Christian ministers out there.

Thanks, Miguel. Though you may be giving me too much credit on the 'intelligent' part. I do try to be open to new ideas.

With anything, take what works for you and throw the rest away. Welcome to the community. A book you may find interesting, very ahead of its time, that addresses religion in a transhumanist context is Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. Among other things, it is the book that famously inspired Philip Rosedale to found Second Life.
