Hi, my name is Wayne Eddy.
I've just signed up to the
Accelerating Future Wiki, and found my way from there to here.
I've been interested in the concept of a Technological Singularity since I first read "The Peace War" & Marooned in Real Time" by Vernor Vinge" in 1988.
I live in Bundaberg, Australia, which is located about 400km north of Brisbane.
I am a Civil Engineer & I work for
Bundaberg Regional Council as Manager Assets.
Of late I have become very interested in Collaboration & Collective Intelligence, and I can imagine a day in 5 or 10 or 20 years time, when most problems will be solved by large groups of people working together using collaborative software tools & expert systems.
My main project at the moment is the
Local Government & Municipal Knowledge Base, an attempt to harness the collective intelligence of the Australian Local Government Sector.
I have a beautiful wife & two wonderful children.
I have been playing tennis for about twenty years. .
I used to read a lot of Science Fiction, and some of my favorite authors include; Vernor Vinge, David Brin, Peter F Hamilton, Iain M Banks, Greg Egan, Larry Niven & Jerry Pournelle.
I taught myself C++ about 20 years ago, but I have only really ever worked on one project -
The Atlas of Habitable Worlds - which I haven't worked on recently, but I might go back to one day.
Lastly I am die-hard Richmond Supporter, for the 99.9% of the world population that that means nothing to, Richmond is an Australian Rules Football Club, also known as the Tigers. Unfortunately we haven't won a flag since 1980, but there is always next year.....
